From Vision to Action: Staying Focused and Energized During Your Pivot
On June 26, 2025, Pivot with Purpose hosted its second event that is part of our Seminar Series. This session was the second of two featuring Jenny Blake as the key speaker tackling our first seminar series theme: Developing Your Career Path in the Post-USAID World.
Laura Sheehan, Walsh School of Foreign Service, once again joined Blake in this session. Building on the previous session, Blake and Sheehan focused their advice on how to put your vision into action with tools to stay focused, avoid burnout, and make steady progress as you navigate the job market in a shifting global landscape.
In the previous session, Blake stressed the importance of mapping where you are going in your career pivot. This session turned our attention to discussing the best ways to build a sustainable strategy for our time and energy to help us seize our next career opportunity.
Rather than falling back into older patterns of the Burdensome B’s (getting bottlenecked, bored, buried by bureaucracy, or burning out), it is crucial to structure your days in a way that works for you.
Participants learned how to set up smarter systems to stay focused and energized, moving from friction to flow through the 3-stage Free Time Framework: Align, Design, Assign.
With these tools in-hand, you can generate momentum in your job search by creating a sustainable strategy to map out your next steps and take the opportunities that come your way!
According to Blake, using these strategies will help you not only find your next career path, but doing so will also allow you to do even more of your best work no matter where you land. Following these steps to create concrete strategies will only support your efforts to find a new calling, even in this constantly-evolving environment!
