Pivot to Management Consulting from International Development

On August 14, 2025, John Potter (PwC), Gayle Martin (Bridgepsan Group), and Jimmy Henderson (Delivery Associate) offered their insight and knowledge about the management consulting space, showing us how to best leverage our international development experience to land a role in the consulting world successfully. Meg McClure (Georgetown SFS) moderated this session, and Steve Radelet (Georgetown SFS) also provided additional commentary.

This session was the fourth in our Pivot to New Career Paths seminar series, designed to offer attendees the opportunity to hear from colleagues who have already made these important career transitions and glean how to best embark on these changes themselves.

With ongoing shifts in the international development sector, many development professionals are seeking to pivot to the world of management consulting, bringing their expertise in problem-solving and strategy with them.

The panelists in this session all have extensive (and diverse!) backgrounds in consulting, ranging from Fortune 500 strategy, to social impact work, and for more mission-driven roles. All featured speakers agreed that while the job market is difficult, there is demand for our expertise and space for us to pursue meaningful and rewarding careers!
