We’ve Pivoted: We’ve Pivoted: Consulting Roles
On April 8, 2026, our penultimate session, Kara Perlman (Cardea), Gabe Hendin (Pelagic), Mike Moses (Itad), and Jessica Lucas (Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University) joined the Pivot with Purpose community to offer their advice and discuss their strategies for finding new employment in private consulting. Adia Armstrong (DGA-Albright Stonebridge Group) moderated this event, and Steve Radelet (Georgetown University) provided additional commentary.
This session was the sixteenth and last in our Pivot to New Career Paths seminar series. These seminars have been designed to offer attendees the opportunity to hear from colleagues who have already made these important career transitions and glean how to best embark on these changes themselves.
As with every Pivot to New Career Paths session, our panelists were just like you – out of work and looking for their next opportunity. Yet all found new opportunities in private consulting.
The principal advantage in consulting is the sheer number (and diverse nature) of roles available. Whether advising on communications strategies, assisting with supply chain advisory, or starting-up philanthropic initiatives, the panelists were able to draw from their extensive background knowledge and skills to pursue a wide variety of roles.
Similar to the previous session on roles in Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability , this sector is relatively stable and likely to grow, and the demand for our skillsets and experience remain high.
The featured panelists all agreed that we have the knowledge and skills required to thrive in these roles. All we need to do is find and pursue them!
To help with this undertaking, our speakers shared what their transitions actually looked like: the decisions they made, the skills that transferred, and the steps that they took to land their roles. We hope that their practical advice will guide you during your own pivot and encourage us all to pursue new opportunities in private consulting!
